Sidenotes: Riku and Sora grew up together as best friends, until Kairi came along... and then they were all best friends together! One night, after planning with his best friends to try to get off the island they'd grown up on, a bad storm unleashes hordes of strange evil creatures onto their home. Riku then gets swallowed up by the darkness, and it is up to Sora to find out his fate. During the events of Kingdom Hearts, it is discovered that Riku's heart and body have been taken over by a being who calls himself Ansem. At the end of the game, he is defeated, and Riku returns to normal. He decides to lock himself behind the Door to Darkness with King Mickey, causing Sora and co. to continute their search for them. At the beginning of KH: CoM, Riku finds himself in the very bottom floor of the basement of a mysterious castle...
