He had never given any indication of being alive before Serge showed up, as evidenced by the fact that his worshipper freaked out when Mojo spoke. I guess the fisherman liked worshipping non-living things?

Recruitment

With Kid or Leena in your party, show the Shark Tooth to the "fisherman" in Another World. As you're leaving, Mojo comes to life. He joins your cause in the name of love and courage.

Where to find Mojo's level 7 tech

Take Mojo to the fisherman in Home World, who says something about hearing voices telling him to pray to Lasery, Aurey, and Lickey. Now, take Mojo to the other fisherman (Another World), talk to him, and inspect the cat statues in the order the first fisherman mentioned them (Lasery is the black cat statue, Aurey is the one on the other side of the room, and Lickey is the one right next to Lasery). A voice then starts speaking out of nowhere, and Mojo starts angsting about being a curse on people. Aw, poor Mojo. His name now changes to Mojoy (not that the game tells you or anything, but you can see it in the menu), and he learns HoodooGuroo, his level 7 tech.
