Sidenotes: Donald was the first person to discover that King Mickey was missing (well, besides Pluto, Mickey's faithful dog). He tried to keep the King's disappearance from Queen Minnie and her lady-in-waiting Daisy, but failed miserably, as he didn't realize that the two were right behind him while he was telling Goofy about the incident. He has a rather rocky relationship with Daisy, which possibly made the whole "not telling the girls" thing just a bit worse.

Recruitment: After missing meeting Donald and Goofy about three times in various parts of Traverse Town, you finally meet them right before fighting the Guard Armour (well, more like they'll land on you), and then they join up after the fight.
