Released in 2002, Kingdom Hearts was the first joint endeavor of Disney Interactive and SquareSoft entertainment. Although both sides still claim that the
other started negotiations for making this game, it still proved to be a huge success.
The battle system is great. You can move backwards, forwards, left, right, up, down, jump, spin around, anything that a real person could do while fighting,
with none of that scrolling or two-directional battles you get in most other games. Also, the enemies appear right in the area, instead of the characters
being taken to another screen to do battle in (a la
Final Fantasy VII and
Chrono Cross, for example). You can use physical attacks, magic, and abilities (the last two are learned in different
parts of the game). The storyline is also pretty cool, what with the traveling to different worlds and all. A great game to play, and guaranteed to make
you want to keep on playing.
On their island home, Sora, Riku, and Kairi are growing up together. The best of friends, they share everything, including their ideas and dreams for the
future. A common theme between the three is wondering what other worlds are out there, as they've never been off the Destiny Islands. They hatch a plan
to get off the island in order to explore what's out there, but on the very night that they put the finishing touches on their plan, an evil darkness takes
over the island. Sora wakes up in a strange place, with no clue how he got there, and with no sign of Riku or Kairi anywhere. He's also somehow come into
posession of a "key"... on which the fate of all worlds rests. Find out if Sora can muster up the courage to save the worlds and find his friends.
